Work Shares and Work Share Applications

Again in keeping with the typical CSA business model, we are happy to be able to offer two or three Work Shares this year. In exchange for a commitment of 100 hours of on-the-farm work over the course of a season, you can get a full share of produce at no cost.  This is the get-your-hands-dirty sort of work in all kinds of weather, so it is not for the faint of heart.  But it is a great opportunity to learn a lot about organic agriculture from and experienced farmer, as well as earn 26 weeks of fresh local produce for free!

Generally speaking, the 100 hour commitment is expected to be spaced out in regular increments throughout the season so as to maximize your labor’s value to the farm, so we’d need you to commit to about four hours per week on a regular basis that the farmer can count on from week to week rather than work all 100 hours in one month or for only part of the season. The season runs from mid-March through mid-November, so it is quite a commitment that should not be taken lightly.  You will be required to pay for your share if you do not keep up your end of the bargain.

Because of the type of work and the size of the commitment, there is a separate application process for Work Shares, and they are not a part of the lottery process.  Applicants are interviewed to insure that they understand and are able to keep their commitment to the farm and to other members of the CSA. If you are interested in being considered for a Work Share, please CLICK HERE for an application. Fill it out and submit it to amy.johnson@greenerpartners.org NO LATER THAN APRIL 1ST, 2010.  She’ll be in touch with you to arrange an interview.
